We have a pregnant female cat, and I am wondering just when she is going to give birth? Are there any particular signs I can look for when she's getting ready? I'd kind of like to put her and the kittens in a safe place, even if it means caging the mom before she gives birth.

Katey, when my cat gives birth it start looking for corners and try to climb almiras and all. ANd they start meowing in a particular tone. But I think the signs may differ for diiferent cats, so keep an eye on your cat. And don't worry about keeping the cat in a safe place. They are smart creatures and can take care of themselves. And never cage a cat.

The tummy also drops and hangs really low or my cat did. She also had a nice secure place picked out. I also noticed the day she was to give birth she was acting slightly different. She kind of was looking around lol. Hard to explain but you can sense something is going on when its time.

Our cats would usually try to go into a dark closet and then they start clawing the ground to get the area comfortable. Dogs do the same thing. Our cats started meowing and panting a lot too. Usually you will notice they will act out of the ordinary for a few days prior to giving birth as well.

When your cat starts going into seclusion that might be a clear sign. If she feels threatened she can stop the birthing process which can be dangerous to your cat's life as well as her kittens.

Seclusion is a good sign. Also if you see mucus coming out of the back area, that is a good sign that in about 2 to 4 hours your cat should be giving birth to kittens! If it is longer than that, I would call the vet.

KateyBate- did your cat have its kittens? If it did, I hope everything went well. I found a stray once that was already pregnant, it was just a kitten itself and was too small to give birth. The first one came out stillborn and the second is the one I have today. I took the her to the emergency vet and they had to terminate that others :(

I knew my Gloria was about to give birth, because she couldn't get comfortable, and she became overly affectionate. when I tried to take a bath, she keep meowing and coming to the tub and than going back and forth to my room, she even tried bitting my hand and pulling me out of the tub. I knew it wouldn't be long, and sure enough at 1 am in the morning she gave birth to two kittens. Both are perfectly healthy and doing fine. We named them Tupac and Little John. The whole family is doing great.

I also have cat who I believe is 4-5 weeks pregnant. I am not sure but I put up a picture of her on here. Her name is Ms. Mooie because she looks like a cow. She is gaining lots of weight and her nipples are swelling so big that you can see them through her fur. Is there any advice on what to do for her or signs of giving birth?

There are obvious signs that my cat is going to have kittens. I am a little confused though..I do not know when she mated, so therefore I do not know when the kittens will be born. My question is--The hair has fallen out around her nipples but they are not filled to where it is noticeable. I can feel the kittens moving. Are her nipples supposed to be swollen or something?? She also makes a growling noise when we go near her but doesn't all the time. Her belly is huge but I am still concerned about the nipple aspect. Please help. thanks

IS she outdoor or indoor? From what my vet set, technically female cats are always in heat. Its just up to the male. My cat is pregnant but she loves to snuggle with us still, i think even more so now. She does hide most of the day though. I think a cat has a 6-8 week gestation period right?

Some tips that I have acquired as to my cat giving birth last night are:1)Have a spot picked out for them that they can get to. We took a box and placed a towel in it. *Normally my cat would never get into a box or anything but when she got in it and we knew she was ready. 2)Meowing abnormally/Panting. *My cat hardly ever meows so that was helpful. 3)Milk coming from nipples. *We noticed this the night before she had them. 4)When they start giving birth they need quiet and don't need other animals around. *We turned the tv off and shooed the dogs out of the room. 5)It's okay to be next to them while they are in labor. *She stared and meowed at us while she was first having contractions(i guess?) and wanted us to pet her head so we did. 6)But pretty much animals have instinct so they'll be okay. =] And I am pleased to say im a owner of 5 new kittens =p

My cat is just now a year old and she got pregnant about six weeks ago. We had our male fixed probably a week after she got pregnant. The other Tuesday night I noticed she had a mucus hanging from her well you know what I am talking about and 4 hours later she was giving birth. The kittens were so small. I mean I had a friend of mine who is a vet assistant here and she said she never saw kittens so small. The first three delivered where alive. The last one came 1 hour after the first 3 who had come in about 20 minute intervals and it was still born. That was the hardest thing to deal with. so i thought. THen she rejected all of the kittens. wouldnt feed them clean them or anything. So i got newborn kitten formula fed them, and they all still died about 3-4 hours apart. My friend said they had come way to early. THen last night, she delivered yet another one stillborn. I feel so bad for her but my friend said she rejected them because she knew they werent going to make it. I so badly wanted them to live because I wanted my kids to be able to see them grow and now the whole family is sad because of what happened. So i hope this doesnt happen to anyone else.
