I got my cat at 6 weeks and from day one she would bit if you tried to pet her or was ignoring her she is now 4 months and she still bites but not as hard as she once did she only bites when you pet her or if she is trying to play with you and you ingore her she attacks like she is chasing prey but she doesn't bite she only pounces and bite your fingers soft if you stop and play back

I can relate to this. I had a cat whose shadow I saw stealthily approaching me from behind while I was on my bed and it bit my arm hard and held on while growling. I hadnt provoked the cat in any way I am aware of. The bite was close to a blood vessel so I was worried. The bite took a few weeks to heal and was kind of nasty looking. After this, the trust I had for that cat was pretty much gone. I didnt get rid of her though, which I think a lot of people would have.

Whenever I come to pet my cat she starts hissing and tries to bite me for no reason that I'm aware of.

I didn't get rid of my cat but I'm getting worried that it might get worse.

Hi am a cat lover too :) is there any difference between male and female behavior towards us? I had a female cat before she was not that much aggressive as the one i actually have which is male. I usually cuts his nails(only the needle parts) His bites really hurts, I dunno what would happened to me if i didn't cut his nails, sometimes he jump on my feet and bite me hard :( is there anyway i could control his aggressive behaviours?

Someone gave me their cat when he was about 7 months old. He had been neutered and front claws removed (I am soooo against the removal of claws). He had once been thrown across the room by this person's boyfriend. I don't know what else may have happened to him. He would bite when I pet him and bite my legs when I walked. I have broken him of the habit of biting me when I walk, by putting him in "time out" for 2 minutes, in the bathroom with the light on, and the door closed. When he bit me on the leg, I said "no. time out" and put him gently on the closed lid of the commode. After 2 minutes, I opened the door, picked him up, kissed him on the head, and put him gently on the floor. It took a couple of weeks to break him, but it worked. When I walk, he sometimes grabs my legs with his front paws, but he doesn't bite. He still bites my hand and arm when I pet him or clip his back claws. The only time I bleed is if I jerk my hand or arm away. I haven't tried putting him in time out for this habit, because I'd be putting him in time out every few minutes. I am hoping he'll outgrow this habit, and it doesn't hurt nearly as much as it did on the legs. I think someone either played too aggressively with cats like this, or they mistreated them. I am extra kind to my cat, he has things to play on, in, and with. I would never think of giving him up. By the way, before I clip his claws, I wrap my arms and hands with an ace bandage, exposing only my fingers, and after the clipping, I give a treat, even though he is biting the ace bandage the entire time. I have tons of patience, and I will never lose it with him. I hope this helps someone.

Hi,

I have a 9 year old cat- raise him from a kitten at 3 months.

he is fixed.

i take care of him making sure he has his food and fresh water daily and keep the cat litter clean.

he loves jumping on my lap to be petted and curls up and sleep, he is a 24/7 in house he never been outside in his life. once he snuck outside and freaked out panic, meow in terrorand hid under the bed for the rest of the day, that is when he was 4 yrs.

now everything is nightmarish,

recently my daughter and I have been attacked on several different occasions, i would be watching tv in my bedroom, my daughter would be reading or doing sketches. the cat jumps on the bed and huntches, eyes glowering, nothing but blackness, ears drawn slightly, and he jumps claws extended teeth gleaming and draws blood, and my arm aches and stings and i make sure it is dissinfected, i have scares still healing from 1 week ago.

i am afraid that he will attack us when we are sleeping.

I am seriously thinking of putting him to sleep, or letting him run out of the house, and not say anything to my daughter.

i never had fear of a house pet in my life. why is he being so angerly agressive lately ( the past 3 weeks).

Some people who get bitten by cats do not deserve it and this is to comment #1. I myself am an animal activist and understand that animals act only in fear however, that does not mean that a person deserves to get bitten. That comment was a little closed minded and actually cruel of you. I was bitten by my own pet cat this morning when I was carrying her. She heard a noise and freaked out clawed me and bit me so she could run and hide. I was not provoking her or hurting her. Just holding her and petting her.

In addition, do vets deserve to get bitten? They love animals and treat them with respect.

I think that is cool that you have this attitude and are on the animals' side, but that was uncalled for to say that people deserve it. You do not know the situation and some cats are aggressive. I took this cat off the street and gave it a home. I do not know how she was treated by humans in the past, but I have sacrificed myself for the needs of this cat. I love her and will still keep her so do not judge until you know what happened. I have never hit, hurt or provoked her. I have pus coming out of my bite and I am on antibiotics. Sorry guys I am just mad at the person for saying that all people that are bitten by a cat deserve it.

I think putting a cat to sleep or abandoning them is cruel. I myself have two homeless cats that have been abandoned. You have this cat and this cat depends on you. Yes you need to get rid of it for the safety of your kids, but not the way you want to. Take it to a shelter that will not put him to sleep or try to find a home for this cat. You just want to take the lazy way out and not be responsible for your cat.

Are you serious? You actually will let the cat run out. That is mean.

I really need some help!

I have a 4 year old neutered cat. He is the sweetest lap cat I've ever had but over the past 2 years I have had a problem.

He attacks me while I sleep and draws blood. He always attack my head and face. He always has food, fresh water, so i know it is not because of that. and he lives in the house 24/7.

I obviously could not have done anything to offend him while I am passed out asleep and the bites just get worse and worse. I have to pull him off me and then I put him out of the bedroom. He always immediately goes back to his normal loving ways soon after. I just don't understand.

I have always been a cat lover and could never let myself get rid of him, but I can never sleep or relax because it is getting worse and I am becoming very afraid of him. I can no longer trust him.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a way to fix this problem? What do you think is provoking him to attack me while I sleep??

PLEASE HELP!!!!

My cat is biting when she is angry. when she wants something, like to go out and I won't open the door. She watts until I turn my back than she launches herself at my legs and bites and runs away! last might she bit me 4 times each time as soon as I turned my back! I finally backed away from the door. this has happened before but she has only bitten once. She KNOWS this is wrong because she runs away. She also bites if she doesn't like what's put in her dish or it she wants the tap turned on (she always has cold fresh water but prefers it from the tap.) she also bites at night if my restless legs are disturbing her. I have Diabetes I don't see how I can keep a cat that bites my feet but how do you give away a cat with behavior problems.

She also bites the vet so he puts her in restraints, he says a cat will usually forgive him with a few head scratches and some nice petting but she REMEMBERS SHE OWES HIM A BITE so he won't take her out until we are fully done than He releases her and RUNS! He says he has never met a cat who keeps score before! WHAT AM I GOING TO DO? Pleas help if you can. Thanks MEB

In reference to CatLover Comment #37...I'm having the same problem as you. I have a 4 year old male cat named Toby...he's fixed and is usually the friendliest cat. He acts more like a dog than a cat BUT he has been biting me and I'm frightened of him at times. I play with him during the day but am never rough with him. I went to bed last night and turned out the light. Within 5 minutes, he jumped up on the bed, bit my arm very hard and ran towards the door. I got up, shook my finger at him and said "OUCH" bad kitty. He gave me a look that said he knew he was bad. I let him out of my room and closed the door. This has happened before and it troubles me as I have done nothing to provoke him. I don't trust him now so I will no longer allow him to sleep in my room. He has bitten me when I have been petting him and also stalked me and bitten my ankles. I love my cat but don't like him much right now. I have been contemplating what to do with him. Any suggestions??? I live alone so there are no small children around..thank goodness!! I'm so puzzled by Toby's behavior and not happy by his attacks on me.

Hi i know what its like to be attacked by a cat for no apparent reason!

I have got a 7 year old cat, had him done as soon as he was old enough, but lately he seems to be getting worse, he will be purring away and the next thing you know he is attached to your arm or leg, claws and teeth sunken into the skin and draws blood, i have three children and worry that one day he will really and i mean really hurt one of the children. He has attacked each one of us in the house, when we leave him alone, we may just walk past him, and then he attacks! i really dont know what to do with him, as he is my cat, and i do love him very much, but i am in two minds as to weather i should keep him and hope it all works out or try to find him a new home, which to be honest i dont know who would want such an aggresive cat, can anyone out there help me, cos i really dont know what to do, it brings me to tears to think that i have to get rid of him and find him a new home, but at the same time, its also not fair on my children to be attacked by him for no reason :(

I'm searching for answers, my cat bites all the time, without provocation. She likes to jump up the back of chairs and bite people's heads, or fly over armchairs, bite arms. A friend at the house last weekend, she bit his calves 3 times before I put her away.

I don't know how to stop this, I've read that it's nervous, and that I'm supposed to pet her and make her feel better...

I have had a beautiful cat for 2 years. He came to me at night in my backyard. I kept him outside during the day and inside at night. He went after our next door cat and almost killed him. He is very agressive. They asked me to bring him inside. He can be such a warm little sweet baby and then without any reason will bite me and with his teeth in my arms I say "No" and then he bites me deeper . When I pull him off he gets more fierce and attacks me on my legs. I have had so many deep bites where infection has spread that I have had to go to my family doctor for penicillin shots and

antibiotics. The last episode came when I got between my cat and another pet and when he couldn't get him, he viciously attacked me on my right legs and I was dripping with blood. My pants were torn and soaked. I had to go to the ER for morphine and an antiobiotic intrav. drip. I went back again and the invection had spread further. I had to be put on crutches. I loved my cat with all my heart and I have read other people who feel the same was way. I could not live in my house with fear of my cat and I did have to put him to sleep. I wish I had him back but I know he would do it again.

I have a 5-year old siamese mix rescue kitty that I have had since he was 9 weeks old. When I adopted him, the rescue group told me that he would be a very "clingy" cat who would need to be with people all of the time. I thought that odd and wondered how they could know that. Well, they were right, my cat became very attached to me and to this day follows me around the house wherever I am and waits for me to sit down so he can be on my lap. The dark side of my kitty is that he he periodically randomly attacks me or bites me when I ignore earlier requests from him, like to go outside. I can be sitting on the sofa reading and he will just jump up and seriously attack my arm like he is out to kill. He also has severe separation anxiety. I travel a lot for work and have a kitty sitter take care of him in the house. When I return from a long trip, he will be cuddly and purring but also crying from distress when he sees me. Usually about an hour later, he will lay into me and bite hard like he is saying. "this'll teach you not to leave me again...". One trip I was gone for two weeks. I went to bed and he jumped on the bed and lunged at my wrist--he bit me very hard and left a nasty puncture wound. I cleaned the wound as best I could but ended up in the emergency room the next day with a rapidly spreading infection. Most people would advise to get rid of him, but most of the time he is a very sweet, cuddly cat with a very funny, mischevious and strong personality. I have accepted that this is a part of his bevavior I am willing to live with because I adore him. He's neurotic, he's a cat.

Wow. Felines are very independant creatures. At the same time they are very loving and have their own way of showing it. Please don't confuse a rabid animal with a cat's love bit! Cat can seriously hurt you, but they don't. A way to show affection is in their love bits...ESPECIALLY on the NOSE! The majority of you people really have nothing to worry about...rather consider yourselves LOVED!

I am a animal lover both to dogs and cats( i love big cats), But i was attack by a cat when i was a little lad, i was asked to go and get the milk that had been delivered and i say a tom cat and being fascinated by this tom cat i brought it in and sat on the bed ans was clapping it, the next thing i had been biting in the i head which as let a scaring on my head to this day, i think it all depends on the temperament of the cat and how dominant they are, just like dog

My one year old cat attacks to hurt all the time. I got him from the Saturday market down in portland where a couple had a litter of kittys they needed homes for, I willingly took him and in the car ride home to seattle he playfully bit me and in the beginning when he was small and couldn't do much damage I just took it as playing. Now that he is older with bigger claws and teeth its really begginning to be a problem I thought it was a phase he would grow out of but my friends and family litterally walk in fear of him I have one sister that won't even come over because he constantly attacks her legs biting and clawing just when she walks by. I even thought maybe its because were so much bigger than him that he gets scared, but there are many occasions in which he will be sitting on my lap ill be petting him, he'll even start purring and then out of no where he will attatch himself to my arms with his claws and bite me. I constantly have scratches on my arms and legs that look horrible. I can't imagine giving him away I love him to death, but I just don't know what to do anymore, any suggestions?

cats need to be stimulated. when they are little they have their siblings to play with and they usually bite each other. if you only have one cat or kitten they will bite and play with you as though you were thier sibling it is just how cats play.Sometimes escially if they are only one cat in the household they will never out grow this behavior. They are like toddlers with alot of patience you mighgt be able to break them from this habit but it takes alot of stimulation and patience on your part.
