Best type of cat?

Is there one cat type that is better around young children then another? I know certain breeds of dog have a reputation of being better for children then other and i am looking at purchasing a cat soon but want to make sure its a good choice for the household.

Have you ever heard of a rag doll cat. They are fairly calm cats. We had two of them as kids and never were scratched and they lived quite a long time.

No i havent. Does it have another name it goes by. Im in the NY area and ive never heard of a cat breed named that. Sounds like something i would be interested in though.

I've heard that Siamese can be hard to have around if you have kids, but I have really only seen that once. I think any breed can be fine around kids as long as you get a good kitten and it's used to the kids. I've never heard of "rag dolls" I'd be interested in hearing more about them though.

Cats and children really depend a lot on the parents. The parents have to teach the children that cats aren't toys. Cats have feelings and emotions and when to leave them alone. Cats need to be trains (as much as a cat can be trained) to behave around the child.

Tiger cats can be very shy. Persian cats can be boring. Siamese can be mean. Calico can be nice if you treat them with respect.
