| Best type of cat?Is there one cat type that is better around young children then another? I know certain breeds of dog have a reputation of being better for children then other and i am looking at purchasing a cat soon but want to make sure its a good choice for the household. |
| Have you ever heard of a rag doll cat. They are fairly calm cats. We had two of them as kids and never were scratched and they lived quite a long time. |
| No i havent. Does it have another name it goes by. Im in the NY area and ive never heard of a cat breed named that. Sounds like something i would be interested in though. |
| I've heard that Siamese can be hard to have around if you have kids, but I have really only seen that once. I think any breed can be fine around kids as long as you get a good kitten and it's used to the kids. I've never heard of "rag dolls" I'd be interested in hearing more about them though. |
| Cats and children really depend a lot on the parents. The parents have to teach the children that cats aren't toys. Cats have feelings and emotions and when to leave them alone. Cats need to be trains (as much as a cat can be trained) to behave around the child.About the Ragdoll: "Is This The Breed For Me? "If you want a large cat which is non-aggressive, loves to be with people, and is very placid, you may want to consider a Ragdoll. Also, if you love the look of a long-haired cat, but do not want the constant grooming associated with breeds such as the Persian, a Ragdoll would be a good choice. The gentle Ragdoll is also good with children and is easy to introduce into a multi-pet household." |
| Tiger cats can be very shy. Persian cats can be boring. Siamese can be mean. Calico can be nice if you treat them with respect. |
| I also love Calico cats.. I had one and it was very lovable with my son. We never had any problems with it around other people. I wasn't shy and wouldn't hide from people.. He loved attention. I would recommend getting a Calico if you want a cat that would be fun and safe to have around your family.. |
| I personally like Maine Coon Cats |
| British Shorthair Cats are fabulous big placid cats which are great with kids! And so pretty too! I have two and my son (5) loves them. Neither has ever shown their claws - when they are tired of his attention they just runaway! |
| Nothing beats a Burmese cat. They are loving and special. They bond immediately and will endear you to them. |
| "BEST TYPE OF CAT!"
I think the best cat is burmese they are sweet, have short hair and are cute. I have a baby brother and once he bit my bumese cats tail and the cat didn't hurt him. Burmese are good with children. I think they are the best type of cat to bye! |
| "buying calm cat ( not naughty or hiper active)"
I want your advice regarding the best type of (calm cats). I need a cat I can leave it at home alone without expecting jumping from place to another place or any type of damages. It should stay with an old woman, so it should be calm. |
| "Calm Cats"
My current cat is a stray that showed up one day on my porch as a kitten and it's by far the best cat I've ever owned. In my opinion, trying to label cats by breed is like trying to label people based on race. Each cat has its own personality and just like a child, we can have some control over how that personality turns out if we raise them properly. Regardless of how calm or crazy my cats have been the one thing in common is that as kittens they go absolutely bonkers, especially when left alone. If you're looking for a cat for an older person you might want to avoid a kitten and think about getting a calmer more mature cat. |
