I know certain breeds of dog have a reputation of being better for children then other and i am looking at purchasing a cat soon but want to make sure its a good choice for the household. Comment #1 Courtney (1) from The South - Have you ever heard of a rag doll cat. They are fairly calm cats. We had two of them as kids and never were scratched and they lived quite a long time. Comment #2 endora (24.45.126.104) - No i havent. Does it have another name it goes by. Im in the NY area and ive never heard of a cat breed named that. Sounds like something i would be interested in though. Comment #3 najdoyza from the mountains - I've heard that Siamese can be hard to have around if you have kids, but I have really only seen that once. I think any breed can be fine around kids as long as you get a good kitten and it's used to the kids. I've never heard of "rag dolls" I'd be interested in hearing more about them though. Comment #4 Turtle from Lily Pond - Cats and children really depend a lot on the parents. The parents have to teach the children that cats aren't toys. Cats have feelings and emotions and when to leave them alone. Cats need to be trains (as much as a cat can be trained) to behave around the child. Comment #5 Angela from Somewhere'sVille - Tiger cats can be very shy. Persian cats can be boring. Siamese can be mean. Calico can be nice if you treat them with respect. Comment #6 Geri (63.176.159.201) - I also love Calico cats.. I had one and it was very lovable with my son. We never had any problems with it around other people. I wasn't shy and wouldn't hide from people.. He loved attention. I would recommend getting a Calico if you want a cat that would be fun and safe to have around your family.. Comment #7 Okieball from Arkansas - I personally like Maine Coon Cats Comment #8 Coralie (82.112.133.113) - British Shorthair Cats are fabulous big placid cats which are great with kids! And so pretty too! I have two and my son (5) loves them. Neither has ever shown their claws - when they are tired of his attention they just runaway! Comment #9 Ian (68.146.2.150) - Nothing beats a Burmese cat. They are loving and special. They bond immediately and will endear you to them. • Page 1 (Original Post) •
