I love birds and am trying to find something really exocit for a pet. Any good suggestions? A tucan maybe?

this one had many kinds of species, and lots of information!

I would start with something small and easy like a canary and then move up to the big guys. The big ones are very expensive and high maintenance. My uncle has a big white bird with the yellow feathers on top, don't know what it is...but he has an entire room devoted to the bird.

I agree with Courtney, start small like a canary. We had a canary as a child and my sisters cleaned the cage outside. Duh..you guessed it. The bird flew away!! It was pretty sad and my parents refused to get another one.

If you never had one before I would get a parachet. You can always find one at a pet store for sale. They usually run around $20 sometimes for $10 during the holidays. Keep in mind that they do bite until they get used to you.

I have a citron cuckatoo. I paid a decent amount for my bird but he's awesome. He does talk and can sometimes be a pain in the neck. They are tempermental sometimes.

Parakeets can bite, but unlike the bigger birds, their bite almost never draws blood, and if it does, the wound is only the size of a dot.

What is a good bird to have around kids?
